Onward Organizing October Delights: Streamlined Strategies for a Spooktacular Season!

Boo-tiful Greetings, Amazing Friends!

Time truly flies, doesn’t it? This month has whisked by, and it’s my absolute favorite time of the year. The festivities, the cooler weather, and all the delicious food make it so special.

I want to express my heartfelt gratitude to each one of you for welcoming me into your homes and entrusting me with the task of organizing your spaces. It’s a privilege to get to know you and be a part of your day-to-day life. Thank you, thank you!

On a personal note, I recently had a bout of COVID—might’ve been from my trip to see Beyoncé (insert eye roll here). Was it worth it? Absolutely, yes! It also served as a gentle reminder to slow down and prioritize self-care. Sometimes, the Universe has a crazy way of nudging me to take a break and catch up on some much-needed sleep. So, that’s exactly what I did. Now, we’re back and more ready than ever to conquer the world! Watch out now!

This past weekend, I found myself reinvigorating my entrepreneurial spirit. The women I met at the 6th Annual Biz+Life Con left me feeling incredibly inspired. I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to TARRA and Second Act Women for the VIP tickets. I can’t emphasize enough how much I needed this experience, especially at this precise moment. Your generosity and love do not go unnoticed. Being in the company of so many strong, incredible women was nothing short of magical!

I had the pleasure of meeting countless remarkable women who are thriving in their businesses and taking life by storm. It reaffirmed for me that I’m exactly where I need to be. Every step forward, no matter how small or slow, is a step toward progress. I gained invaluable insights and am eagerly looking forward to mapping out the upcoming year

It’s been wonderful to witness all of you embracing the spirit of organization! Enjoy these adorable pictures of the Cornelison kittens. When they found inspiration to tidy up their closet and make the seasonal clothing switch, it truly became a family affair. These pictures made my whole day!

I trust this month’s newsletter brings you inspiration for organization, joy in embracing the Halloween spirit, and a glimpse into my cherished family traditions.

May you enjoy the magic and mischief of the season!

Did You Know?

The origin of “Trick or Treating”: The phrase “trick or treat” dates back to the late 1930s. It was a way for children to play pranks on homeowners who didn’t provide treats. Over time, it evolved into the friendly tradition we know today. Happy Trick or Treating!

Soup Season- Caldo de Res

When I fell ill, all I yearned for was to hear my mom’s voice. There’s truly nothing quite like having your mom by your side when you’re unwell. Even though she’s in Texas, her unwavering support and constant check-ins always provide a sense of comfort. She makes sure I’m doing everything I need to do to get back on my feet, including whipping up a hearty caldo (soup) that’s nothing short of life-giving. And let me tell you, I absolutely love me some Caldo de Res!

I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to my dear friend and fellow organizer, Laura from Well Spaced. She not only brought me the ingredients, but also her own homemade vegetable broth, and even went out of her way to purchase meat for the first time as a lifelong vegetarian. I didn’t know this at the time, but I was immensely grateful for the sacrifice she made. Needless to say, the caldo was precisely what my body needed. It’s a truly wonderful and comforting dish!

DIA DE LOS MUERTOS

Día de los Muertos, or the Day of the Dead, is a vibrant and colorful Mexican holiday that celebrates and honors deceased loved ones. It is celebrated on November 1st and 2nd, coinciding with the Catholic holidays of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Here is the ofrendas my sister Laura made last year in honor of our loved ones. She always does such a great job!

Families create elaborate ofrendas (altars) in their homes or at the gravesites of their departed relatives. These altars are adorned with marigolds, candles, sugar skulls, and the favorite foods and drinks of the deceased. They also often include personal mementos, photographs, and religious symbols.

Día de los Muertos is a deeply meaningful and beautiful tradition that emphasizes the continuity of life and the importance of cherishing the memories of those who have passed away. It’s a time for families to come together, express their love, and celebrate the lives of their ancestors.

“Organizing is what you do before you do something, so that when you do it,

it is not all mixed up.”

The Holidays Are Here, Are You Ready?

Organizing for the holidays can help reduce stress and make the season more enjoyable. Here are some tips to help you get started:

  1. Create a To-Do List: Start by making a comprehensive to-do list that includes all the tasks you need to accomplish. This could include things like shopping, decorating, meal planning, and sending out cards.
  2. Set Priorities: Identify the most important tasks and prioritize them. This will help you focus on what needs to be done first and avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  3. Delegate Tasks: You don’t have to do everything on your own. Assign tasks to family members or ask for help when needed. This could include things like decorating the tree, setting the table, or wrapping presents.
  4. Create a Budget: Determine how much you can afford to spend on gifts, decorations, and food. Stick to your budget to avoid financial stress during and after the holidays.
  5. Declutter and Clean: Before you start decorating, take some time to declutter your living space. Donate or discard items you no longer need or use. A clean, organized space will make decorating easier and more enjoyable.
  6. Plan Meals in Advance: Create a menu for holiday meals and make a shopping list. This will help you avoid last-minute trips to the store and ensure you have all the necessary ingredients.
  7. Use Storage Solutions: Invest in storage containers, boxes, and labels to keep decorations, wrapping paper, and other holiday items organized. Proper storage will make it easier to find things next year.
  8. Wrap Gifts as You Go: Rather than leaving all the gift wrapping for the last minute, wrap presents as you buy them. This spreads out the task and reduces last-minute stress.
  9. Set Up a Gift Wrapping Station: Dedicate a space where you can wrap gifts with all the necessary supplies. This could be a table or corner with wrapping paper, scissors, tape, and bows.
  10. Create a Calendar: Use a calendar or a digital planner to schedule activities, events, and deadlines. This will help you stay on top of your commitments and avoid double-booking.
  11. Take Breaks and Practice Self-Care: Remember to take breaks and take care of yourself. It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle, but self-care is essential for staying energized and focused.
  12. Stay Flexible: Sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Be adaptable and willing to adjust your schedule or plans if necessary. It’s important to enjoy the process, even if it’s not perfect.
  13. Reflect and Celebrate: Take time to reflect on what you’ve accomplished. Celebrate your successes, no matter how small. This can boost your motivation and help you enjoy the holiday season even more.

Remember, the holidays are about spending time with loved ones and creating meaningful memories. Organizing is a tool to help you make the most of this special time.
